Here’s a New Mission Project for St. Ansgar’s!
Instead of doing the Marie Sandvik Shoebox Project this fall, we have decided to do a Lutheran World Relief Fabric Kit project.
Fabric Kits stand out among LWR projects in their application as tools to help people gain a skill they can use to provide for their families. Sewing is a valuable skill that can help both men and women earn a reliable income. These kits provide fabric and thread for vocational training programs teaching sewing, and for newly trained tailors to launch their sewing businesses.
To make this project a success, we need donations of 3-yard cuts of 44” cotton or cotton blend fabrics, and a spool of thread, 250-300 yards each, to match the fabric, or a neutral color. Each cut of fabric must be 3 yards in length or it cannot be used.
This is a project where you can buy and donate a 3-yard cut of fabric on your own, or you can go together with one or two other people and buy fabric. Walmart often has bargains on fabric, and Joann Fabric often has great deals with their coupons.
After you’ve had the fun of shopping for the fabric and thread, just bring it to church and put it in the baskets on the table near AnnMarie’s office. The mission committee will get together and bundle the fabric and thread as required by LWR and deliver them to their warehouse in So. St. Paul.
Thank you all for your generous participation in this project, helping to make these kits gifts of hope and beauty, and a blessing to those who receive them.
